ELM System - ELM over Internet Online Demo

We want to provide a way of getting an impression of what the ELM system does and how administration is done even if the ELM hardware is not available. Therefore an ELM system application containing a few modules is online for evaluation purposes. That means, this ELM system is controllable via internet.

You can try out what ever you want. For example, you can open handles, watch climatic conditions and configure alarms. Your access rights depend on the used login level password (passwords are given at step 6 below). There are 10 different login levels altogether.

You may use the SNMP Management Software ELMcontrol for controlling the sample ELM system over the Internet. You can download und use ELMcontrol for free.

Steps to make a connection to the internet demo ELM System using ELMcontrol:

(1) Please check that your internet access does not block SNMP packets and that applications on your workstation are able to solve DNS names. (If you using a firewall, check the configured filters.) If you are not sure, don't worry. Proceed at first with the next step.
(2) Go online.
(3) Start ELMcontrol.
(4) A new entry to the list of ELM systems must be created:
  • From the main menu, go to the Options/Configuration window. Within the shown Configuration window, choose the Network tab.

  • Enter the following name into the Name field: elm-system.dyndns.org (Let the IP address field blank.)

  • Click on the New/Update button. Now ELMcontrol should inform you by a message box that an IP address was detected automatically. Click on Ok to quit that message box. If you get an error message instead, go to step 1.

  • Click on the Ok button to close the configuration window.

(5) Select the ELM system entry just created and activate the network (within the DATA CONNECTION area at the left column of the ELMcontrol screen).

A message box should be shown which informs about your current access permission status. Click on Ok to quit that message box. If you get a timeout instead (the message "no response from ELM system …" - right to the EVENT LOG area) then go to step 1.

(6) Change your access permission by clicking the change button within the LOGIN LEVEL area. The window Login to ELM system is shown. Choose the option Login with workstation-password and enter a Password. The passwords for the 10 permission levels are EMKA1, EMKA2, ... EMKA10.

Note that ELMcontrol may present you a different IP address automatically once a day. Don't care about that; just login again (repeat step 6).

As an alternative to ELMcontrol, you may control the ELM system over the Internet by using of your preferred SNMP manager. You will need the SNMP Interface specification of the ELM (ELM-MIB) for configuration of your SNMP manager.
