A Communication component can exchange data with external workstations via different ways, LAN or serial RS232. Furthermore, CAN-bus data communication between modules and racks of an ELM system is managed by a communication component.
The ELM Management Software ELMcontrol can be used for configuration of a Communication component. The Simple Network Management Protocol SNMPv1 (RFC1157) is used as network communication protocol. This allows the integration of the ELM systems into third party SNMP manager programs. EMKA provides the SNMP-Trap-Receiver Software ELMwatcher for alarm processing.
Exactly one communication component is required for an ELM system.
